Marshall University’s School of Art & Design is set to host its spring art exhibitions, open to the public, as the semester concludes. The events will take place at the Visual Arts Center and feature the efforts of the school's students.
The Birke Art Gallery will present "Ouroboro-Disco: Selected Foundations Works" from April 21 to May 2. This exhibit highlights exceptional student works chosen by the School of Art & Design faculty. An awards reception is scheduled for April 23 from 5 to 7 p.m., with award announcements at 5:30 p.m.
The Charles W. & Norma C. Carroll Gallery will display the Capstone Exhibitions from April 21 to May 1. It consists of final projects by 10 senior students. Capstone Group 1, titled "Luminary," will showcase from April 21 to 24, featuring Sophie Leffew, Lily Narraway, Leah Teasdale, Lana Thacker, and Kaylie Williams. Their reception will be on April 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Capstone Group 2, titled "Personally Identifiable Information," will exhibit works from Maribren Flores, Lyf Moore, Brooke Mullins, Kaz Slonaker, and Joshua White, on display from April 28 to May 1. A reception for this group will be held on April 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. Artist talks from the students are set for 5:30 p.m. during both receptions.
Courtney Chapman, the Gallery Director, remarked, "Our students have been working extremely hard this semester on all floors of the Visual Arts Center and the Art Warehouse. Exhibiting work always has a sense of vulnerability to it, whether it’s a student’s first time showing in a gallery space — which is often the case for the Foundations Review exhibition — or they’re preparing for their final exhibition as a student at Marshall."
The exhibitions are accessible to everyone, located on the first floor of the Visual Arts Center at 927 Third Ave. in Huntington. They are open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Inquiries can be directed to Gallery Director Courtney Chapman at galleries@marshall.edu.
