Marshall University is set to host its Student Research and Creativity Symposium on Wednesday and Thursday, April 2-3. The event will showcase the work of both undergraduate and graduate students, providing them with an opportunity to present their research and creative achievements to the public, free of charge.

The symposium's opening presentation will take place at 2:30 p.m. on April 2 at the Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation's Encova Auditorium. Dr. Moshe Szyf, a retired professor of pharmacology and therapeutics from McGill University, will be the guest speaker. Szyf will discuss "How does the social environment talk to our genes," focusing on the field of epigenetics and the impact of external factors on gene expression.

"We are truly privileged and excited to welcome Dr. Szyf to Marshall for this prestigious symposium," stated Dr. Philippe Georgel, director of Marshall’s Office of Undergraduate Research. "He is a leading authority in his field, and we are eager to hear his insights and expertise. His groundbreaking research will undoubtedly inspire and elevate the academic community here at Marshall."

Over 100 students will display their research work during the event. Faculty mentors and academic professionals will attend to provide feedback to students about their projects. The symposium aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and innovation, reflecting the university’s commitment to research and experiential learning.

For additional details about the symposium, including the schedule, potential attendees can visit Marshall University's website or contact Dr. Philippe Georgel.

Media representatives are invited to cover Dr. Szyf’s address, as well as the student presentations on April 3.
