Marshall University has received recognition from the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) for the second year in a row. Jessica Bailey, a graduate student at Marshall, was awarded the Graduate Student of the Year during ASCA's annual conference held in Portland, Oregon. Bailey is currently pursuing Ed.D. and Ed.S. degrees and serves as the interim assistant director of case coordination for student advocacy and accountability.
Lisa Martin, director of student advocacy and accountability at Marshall University, praised Bailey's approach to her role: "Her ability to maintain a calm and composed demeanor helps put students at ease," she said. "Her holistic approach to problem-solving ensures that the diverse needs of our students are met with care and understanding."
The Graduate Student of the Year Award is given to master's or doctoral students enrolled in student affairs programs who show outstanding collegiality and commitment to ASCA's mission through leadership opportunities in student conduct. Recipients must excel academically while demonstrating leadership and innovation.
This recognition follows last year's Institutional Award of Excellence presented to Marshall University's Office of Student Advocacy and Accountability by ASCA. Martin noted that these honors reflect positively on both the department's quality and Marshall University's dedication to fostering student success.
"These recognitions reflect the dedication and hard work of the staff who actively engage in creating a positive campus environment," Martin stated. "It also highlights the strong support system our university offers."
The ASCA conference took place from February 5-8, with nearly 650 professionals attending for development purposes. The association supports over 2,660 members globally.
