Marshall University announces 2025 Women of Marshall Awards recipients

The Women's Center and the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program at Marshall University have announced the 2025 Women of Marshall Awards honorees. The awards acknowledge significant contributions towards gender equity in leadership, research, activism, and service.

Lillian Hager received the Catalyst for Change Award for her dedication to advocating for women's rights, community well-being, and student safety. Hager has led service projects, conducted gender-based research, and created harm-reduction programs focused on health, safety, and education. Her leadership roles, including her work in Greek life and the founding of a philanthropic small business, underline her commitment to inclusive student spaces. Her activism and support exemplify the spirit of the award.

Dr. Huanshu Yuan was honored with the Impact Award, recognizing her efforts in advancing equity, inclusion, and cultural affirmation for historically marginalized student communities, including Asian and international students. Her scholarly work addresses identity development and stereotypes such as the “Model Minority Myth.” She fosters a socially just educational environment through her teaching, research, and mentorship.

Dr. Cynthia Jones received the Unity in Action Award for her advocacy for gender equity and social justice. As an Associate Professor at the School of Pharmacy, she has mentored numerous students, particularly women and minorities. Her involvement in campus and community organizations supports inclusivity. She is recognized for her contributions to biopharmaceutics research and inclusive learning environments.

Dr. Montserrat Miller was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Her nomination highlights decades of dedication to Marshall University and the wider community. She has demonstrated commitment through award-winning teaching and scholarly contributions. As Executive Director of the John Deaver Drinko Academy, Dr. Miller has supported scholarship highlighting constitutional democracy. Her leadership extends to mentorship and community involvement, making her a deserving recipient of this award.
