The Marshall Recreation Center is set to host its annual Indoor Triathlon on March 1 at 8 a.m., featuring the new "Splash and Dash" event for children. This year's activities will take place entirely indoors, catering to participants aged five and above, regardless of their skill level.
The triathlon is designed as a time-based event with various age divisions. The Youth Age Division, for ages 13-17, includes a 150-yard swim in an indoor pool, a four-mile bike ride on stationary bikes, and a one-mile run on an indoor track. For adults aged 18-60 and older, the events comprise a 300-yard swim, an eight-mile bike ride, and a two-mile treadmill run. Participants' scores will be calculated based on the total distance covered during each segment.
A new addition this year is the Kids Splash and Dash event, which offers a high-energy experience tailored for younger children. The distances are adjusted according to age groups: ages 5-6 will complete a 25-yard swim followed by two track laps; ages 7-8 will do a 50-yard swim and five track laps; ages 9-10 have a 75-yard swim plus seven track laps; and ages 11-12 face a 100-yard swim with nine track laps.
Due to limited space, early registration is encouraged. Interested participants can register online at https://www.trisignup.com/Race/WV/Huntington/MarshallRecIndoorTriathlon.
