The Marshall University Research Corporation (MURC) has announced the recipients of its research awards for faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students across various disciplines. The awards include the Spring 2025 Undergraduate Creative Discovery & Research Awards, Spring 2025 Graduate Creative Discovery & Research Awards, Summer 2025 John Marshall Scholars Awards, and Fall 2025 John Marshall Scholars Awards.

The undergraduate and graduate award programs are open to eligible students from multiple colleges within the university. These include the College of Science, Lewis College of Business, College of Liberal Arts, College of Arts and Media, College of Education and Professional Development, College of Engineering and Computer Sciences, College of Health Professions, and Honors College. The graduate program is a new initiative supported by the President's Office to enhance graduate student research.

Dr. Suzanne Strait, associate vice president for research development at MURC, expressed gratitude for the support from the President’s Office. "We are deeply grateful to the Office of the President for supporting graduate-level research at Marshall University," Strait stated. "Thanks to their commitment, MURC was thrilled to receive such a strong pool of applicants and award five grants for Spring 2025."

The John Marshall Scholar program has been instrumental in promoting creative discovery and research among faculty members from several colleges at Marshall University.

Undergraduate awardees for Spring 2025 include Asha Bora from the College of Science with her study on oral silver nanoparticle exposure; Amelia Bowen also from the College of Science examining heavy metals' impact on Arabidopsis; Sophia Childers from the College of Liberal Arts exploring historical manuscript artwork; Skylar Elliott analyzing mental health service utilization in Southern Appalachia; Grace Ghiz researching butchery practices; Maggie Gibbs studying themes in Ethel Cain’s work; Aaron Grimmett focusing on metabolic inhibition techniques in tardigrades; Hannah Hanlon working on bone scaffold design; Lizana Imran from engineering designing complex bone scaffolds; Eugene Kim investigating magnesium regulation effects; Connor Stonestreet automating track gauge detection using technology; Samuel Sutphin developing gesture recognition systems; Brandi Taylor exploring AI's role in literature engagement; Leah Teasdale delving into liminal spaces.
