For the second consecutive year, Marshall University's Department of Mathematics and Physics will host the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Appalachian Mathematics and Physics Site. This program, set for Summer 2025, offers an eight-week research opportunity in mathematics and physics for undergraduate students.
Participants will receive a stipend of $5,600, along with paid housing in campus residence halls and a meal plan during the program's duration. The program is scheduled to run from June 2 to July 25, 2025.
"Programs like REUs highlight the good work our faculty do in research, and because they are so competitive to get, it means we are doing something right at Marshall," stated Tom Cuchta, assistant professor of mathematics at Marshall University.
The program is competitive with ten available slots across five projects—six designated for math students and four for physics students. A maximum of two undergraduate students from Marshall University will be accepted; the remaining participants will come from other universities across the United States.
Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), REU Sites are available nationwide covering various fields including math, biology, chemistry, engineering, among others.
Applications for this REU Site: Appalachian Mathematics and Physics Site can be submitted online at amps.marshall.edu until March 1, 2025.
