The Brass Band of the TriState is set to perform a concert titled “World Tour” on Tuesday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place in Smith Recital Hall on Marshall University's campus. The performance will showcase music from various countries including Hungary, Bohemia, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Directed by Dr. Michael Stroeher, a professor of low brass at Marshall University, the Brass Band of the TriState consists of community members as well as Marshall students and alumni. This ensemble is unique in West Virginia as it follows the British brass band tradition that dates back nearly two centuries.
Dr. Stroeher commented on the upcoming performance: “At this concert, the audience will hear music from many cultures, including Italian Renaissance Dances, a Hungarian march, and a piece based on a Maori folktale from New Zealand.” He added that experiencing diverse musical traditions can enhance understanding among different cultures: “It’s always great to open our ears to other people’s music. I think it helps us understand them more.”
The concert is free and open to everyone interested in attending.
