Marshall University has outlined its 2024 Homecoming activities, themed "The Marco Games," promising a week of events for students and alumni. The Homecoming game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, against Appalachian State University at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
“We are pleased to announce the return of events that our Marshall and Huntington communities look forward to attending,” said Tiffany Hartman, assistant dean of student life. “This year, we’re also introducing new activities for families to enjoy together. Additionally, the Homecoming Court will be bringing awareness and raising funds for nonprofit organizations during Homecoming Week. We invite everyone to join us on Monday, Sept. 30, for the Unity Walk, where we will announce this year’s Homecoming Court and begin a week of celebration and community engagement.”
Walker Tatum, director of alumni engagement, emphasized the significance of alumni participation: “Homecoming is a powerful reminder of the roots that ground an institution like Marshall, reinforcing the ties that bind so many generations together with one theme.” He added excitement about launching The Marco Games as part of this year's celebrations.
The schedule begins Monday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m., with the Unity Walk starting at the Marshall Rec Center and ending at Memorial Student Center Plaza.
On Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Student Affairs will host the Green and White Giving Competition in Memorial Student Center Lobby through Thursday, Oct. 3. Also on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m., Salsa Under the Stars will take place in BE5 in Memorial Student Center’s basement.
Wednesday's highlight includes the Miss Captivating of Marshall University Scholarship Pageant at 7 p.m., hosted by Black United Students in Don Morris Room.
Thursday features multiple events including an Office Decorating Contest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., StamFEED at LaFontaine’s Rooftop Lounge starting at 5:30 p.m., Hoops in Huntington along Third Avenue at 7 p.m., and Wild N’ Out comedy event in BE5 at 10 p.m.
Friday's activities include WMUL's annual Car Bash from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Parent and Family Weekend registration from 2-6 p.m., class reunions beginning at Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation from 5 p.m., followed by a parade featuring Dorothy “Dot” Hicks as grand marshal starting at Fourth Avenue and continuing east to Harless Dining Hall.
Post-parade festivities include a bonfire on Harless Field with announcements for various competitions' winners and special appearances by coaches and players.
Additional Friday evening events include Marshall University Black Alumni's Hall of Fame ceremony at Brad D. Smith Foundation Hall starting at 7:30 p.m., Herd Family Feud night in Joan C. Edwards Playhouse beginning at 8 p.m., Family Fun Night with games in BE5 starting at 10 p.m., and a silent disco in Marco’s basement running until early morning hours.
Saturday features tailgating events beginning with Marshall Alumni and Family Tailgate next to Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex from noon onwards followed by Thundering Herd facing Appalachian State University at Joan C. Edwards Stadium kicking off at 3:30 p.m.
Evening activities include Greek Stroll-Off Competition in Marco’s basement starting at 8 p.m., culminating with Marshall University Black Alumni Masquerade Party held until midnight at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.
