The Marshall women's basketball team will be making its debut in the Sun Belt Conference at South Alabama on Dec. 29, as the league office announced the upcoming conference schedule on Wednesday.
The Sun Belt released the 18-game league schedules for all the teams including the four newcomers of Marshall, Old Dominion, Southern Miss and James Madison. The teams will play on Thursday and Saturday throughout the season. The final weekend of the year will feature games on Wednesday and Friday to allow an extra day before heading to the Sun Belt Women's Basketball Championship from Tuesday, Feb. 28, to Monday, March 6, at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida.
Marshall will have nine games at home and nine on the road. The Herd will play against the other six teams in the East Division with home/away series, and then will play six teams from the West Division. Along with Marshall the East Division consists of Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, JMU and Old Dominion. The teams in the West are Texas State, Arkansas State, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama, Troy and Southern Miss.
Marshall makes its SBC home debut on Thursday, Jan. 5 as James Madison comes to Huntington. The other home opponents for the women's team are Georgia Southern (Jan. 7), Troy (Jan. 19), Southern Miss (Jan. 21), Appalachian State (Feb. 2), Georgia State (Feb. 4), Coastal Carolina (Feb. 9), Texas State (Feb. 11) and finally versus Old Dominion (Feb. 22).
Along with the league-opener the Herd will hit the road to Appalachian State (Dec. 31), Coastal Carolina (Jan. 12), Old Dominion (Jan. 14), Louisiana-Monroe (Jan. 26), Arkansas State (Jan. 28), Georgia Southern (Feb. 16), Georgia State (Feb. 18) and then at JMU (Feb. 24) to close the regular season.
