The Marshall University Foundation has announced a $100,000 donation to establish the Mark S. Taylor Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is funded by Sally B. Oxley in memory of Mark Taylor, who passed away on April 21, 2021. Taylor graduated from Marshall University in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and earned his master's degree in physical therapy from West Virginia University in 1982. He was inducted into the Marshall University Sports Medicine Hall of Fame in 2006 and served as a physical therapist at Huntington Physical Therapy for 38 years.

"Mark joined our staff of three in 1984 and helped us grow the practice to 25 staff and four offices," Oxley said. "He was always fiercely dedicated to the care and well-being of his patients. He continues to be missed by our staff and patients."

The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student in the School of Therapy who resides in West Virginia, with preference given to residents of Cabell and Wayne counties who demonstrate financial need according to the standards set by the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

The award can be renewed for up to two years, or four semesters, provided that the recipient maintains a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The dean of the School of Physical Therapy, or their designee, will select recipients and manage renewals alongside the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

For more information about the Mark S. Taylor Memorial Scholarship, interested parties can contact Marshall University's Office of Student Financial Assistance at 304-696-3162.
