Marshall University has announced an expansion of its Marshall For All initiative, introducing the Marshall For All: Tuition-Free WV program. This new scheme allows eligible first-time freshmen from West Virginia to attend college without paying tuition fees. The program is aimed at incoming freshmen students who meet specific criteria.
The initiative targets West Virginia students with a family income of $65,000 or less, ensuring their tuition and fees are fully covered without requiring loans. This reflects the university's dedication to making education affordable and accessible for families in financial need.
"We believe that every student deserves access to a high-quality education, regardless of their financial background," stated Brad D. Smith, president of Marshall University. "With this expansion, we’re eliminating tuition as a barrier for even more students, helping them build a future of success—without the weight of student loan debt."
While the program covers all tuition and mandatory university fees, students are still responsible for other expenses such as housing, meals, books, and personal costs. However, there are additional financial aid options available through scholarships and grants to help mitigate these expenses.
"This is a game-changer for students across West Virginia," said Dr. Jerry Ross, Marshall’s chief enrollment officer. "We understand that affording college is a major concern for many families, and this program is another way we’re working to make a Marshall education more accessible."
Students do not need to submit an additional application for the Tuition-Free WV program. Eligibility will be automatically assessed when applying to Marshall University and completing the FAFSA for the upcoming year.
