Marshall University's online programs gain recognition in U.S. News rankings

U.S. News & World Report has recognized four online programs from Marshall University in its 2025 Best Online Program rankings. The university's Criminal Justice program achieved a notable position, ranking 20th. Additionally, the Undergraduate Business program secured the 79th spot, the Graduate Business program was placed at 93rd, and the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program ranked 163rd.

The "Grad Business" category by U.S. News includes non-MBA business degrees such as accountancy, while online MBA programs have their own separate ranking.

Julia Spears, assistant provost of Online Education and Certification at Marshall University, expressed pride in this recognition: “We are honored to be recognized in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report rankings for our online programs.” She added that the university’s innovative teaching methods and strong support ensure students receive a high-quality education regardless of location.

Marshall University's Criminal Justice program saw a significant improvement from its previous ranking. In 2024, it was ranked 33rd, marking a rise of 13 spots in one year. Dru Bora, chair of Marshall’s Department of Criminal Justice, Criminology, and Forensic Sciences remarked on this achievement: “Since the launch of our online graduate program in 2017, we have continuously striven for excellence.”

U.S. News ranks online programs based on various factors including remote support services availability, faculty credentials, and graduation rates.

Leading institutions in U.S. News' Top Online bachelor’s degree programs include State University at Buffalo (SUNY), the University of Florida, the University of Illinois (Chicago), and Arizona State University.
