Marshall University and Cabell County Schools have celebrated a significant milestone for the "Cabell County Commitment," an initiative aimed at easing college admissions for local students. The celebration took place with awareness events at Cabell Midland High School and Huntington High School.

The Cabell County Commitment is a partnership allowing graduating students from Huntington High School, Cabell Midland High School, and the Cabell County Career Technology Center with a GPA of 2.5 or greater to be automatically accepted at Marshall University. This program removes the traditional application process, providing a smoother transition to higher education.

Smith highlighted the collaboration's role in removing educational barriers. "This program eliminates the traditional application process, providing a seamless and stress-free transition for students pursuing a four-year degree," Smith said. "The end goal is to help students transition to college with as few hurdles as possible, which helps our community and state build a more educated workforce."

The direct admission program is expected to benefit hundreds of eligible students in Cabell County, aligning with Marshall University's mission of accessible education for all.

Tim Hardesty, Superintendent of Cabell County Schools, expressed excitement about continuing this partnership. “Cabell County Schools is excited to continue this Cabell Commitment partnership with Marshall University that provides all Cabell County students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher to be automatically accepted into Marshall University without the application process requirements,” he stated. “This commitment by Marshall University will allow our students to have a direct pathway to an education that will lead to their personal growth, education and prosperity as they become part of a great institution. We are Marshall!”
