Dr. Rob Quicke, a professor and director at Marshall University's W. Page Pitt School of Journalism & Mass Communications, has been awarded the 2025 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Textbook Award. His textbook, “Finding Your Voice in Radio, Audio, and Podcast Production,” has earned this recognition for its contribution to media education. The award will be presented at the BEA annual convention in Las Vegas this April.

The textbook, published by Routledge, serves as a guide for students and aspiring media professionals. It provides practical insights into radio broadcasting, audio storytelling, and podcast production. The book focuses on hands-on learning and industry best practices within the evolving digital landscape.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from the BEA,” Quicke said. “This book was written to empower the next generation of audio storytellers, and I’m thrilled that it has been embraced as a valuable resource in media education.”

Quicke is also known for founding College Radio Day, an international event that celebrates student-run radio stations. Now in its 15th year, more than 1,000 colleges and universities across 57 countries participate annually every October. His background in radio and podcasting influences his teaching methods.

In addition to his academic role, Quicke founded the Dead Podcasters Society at Marshall University. This student organization creates podcasts and trains students in audio production. “We meet in the James E. Morrow Library at midnight and by candlelight, so it’s a fun environment to create some cool audio content,” Quicke said.

Marshall University plans to expand its podcasting offerings with a new certificate and minor launching this fall.

The BEA is an international academic media organization that recognizes excellence in media production, research, and education. The BEA Textbook Award is given annually to books making significant contributions to media instruction.
