The D&E men's and women's cross country teams took to Glendale Park in Elkins to defend the Route 33 Cup and both teams were able to win their respective races and the overall team title. The Senators' Emeric Arnaud won the men's 7k race, while Anya Miller was the women's 5k winner.
The men's race kicked off at 9am under cool conditions as fog rolled off the Tygart River and D&E secured eleven of the top fifteen places.
D&E's Arnaud and Gabe Conder battled with Glenville State's Bryce Jarell across the gravel 7k course. A second-half kick from Arnaud put enough distance between he and Jarrell to secure the victory for the Senators in 21:41.63. Jarrell crossed the line in 21:47.81 and Conder followed closely behind in 21:51.49.
Jackson Gibson crossed the line fourth. Nizar Sweileh was fifth. Scott Barker was seventh and the Senators picked up the next four places with Pablo Velt in eighth, Thijs Terlouw in ninth, Cooper Gibson in tenth, and Bastian Luthmann in eleventh. Jan Thewes finished fourteenth. Konnor Allison was fifteenth. Juan Amann finished twenty-fourth.
In the men's team results, D&E secured the first-place finish with 20 points with an average time of 22:05.05. West Virginia Wesleyan was second in 22:59.80 (56 points). Glenville State was third in 23:28.11 (64 points).
The women's race, a 5k event across the same gravel course, began at 9:45 as the fog lifted. Davis & Elkins raced to the top three spots and ten of the top fifteen.
Miller took the top spot in 18:56.47. Savanna Hardman finished second in 19:02.45 and Lauren Twyman was third in 19:11.11.
Ella Hesson finished sixth. Madison Michels was seventh. Rachel Snedden crossed in ninth. Hannah Moore, Winnie Mayes, and Mercedes Ray finished eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth, respectively. Addie Berdine finished in fifteenth place.
The D&E women took the top spot with 19 points with an average time of 19:29.30. West Virginia Wesleyan finished second in 20:20.04 (42 points). Glenville State was third in 22:25.94 (74 points).
In the combined results, D&E took top honors with a point total of 39. West Virginia Wesleyan was second with 98 points. Glenville State finished third with 138 points.
The Senators race next at the Paul Short Invitational on September 30 in Bethlehem, Pa. hosted by Lehigh University.
