Award-winning author, speaker, and visual artist Melanie Ho will lead a workshop at Marshall University’s Brad D. Smith School of Business on Sunday, October 19 at 6 p.m. The event is presented in partnership with BOLD at Marshall University.

The workshop, titled “Comics for Real Talk About What Women Face at Work,” will focus on several topics related to women’s experiences in the workplace. These include understanding persistent double standards such as the “Goldilocks Dilemma,” addressing challenges women encounter as they advance into senior roles, and examining how intent versus impact shapes difficult conversations.

Other themes include challenging internalized bias and identifying patterns that influence how women see themselves. The session will also discuss allyship and intersectionality by offering practical actions to support both women and allies across genders. Attendees will participate in interactive doodling exercises designed to help them envision new ways forward; no artistic experience is required.

Melanie Ho brings over two decades of leadership experience in higher education consulting. She has previously worked as a corporate executive and literature instructor at UCLA. Her workshops combine art and narrative with strategic thinking to address key leadership concepts.

According to the announcement, “By integrating strategy with creativity, Ho helps audiences think more expansively, engage more honestly, and lead with clarity and purpose.”

This free event is open to female students, faculty, and staff within the Marshall community. Registration details are available at www.marshall.edu/wcenter/events.
